A 12 week nature conservation traineeship in South West England, ideal for final year undergraduates, Masters students or recent graduates. The Ambios nature conservation traineeship provides the foundation skills required for a career in nature conservation along with a comprehensive insight into working in the sector. Trainees are based at Lower Sharpham Farm in the picturesque Dart River Valley, Devon, where they will live and work with a team of fellow trainees as well as working with a range of conservation organizations from our extensive network. The traineeship can count toward university credits for students and Erasmus+ funding is available. This is not our EVS opportunity.

Placements include field trips to local conservation sites; biodiversity assessments, practical skills in wildlife survey; techniques for the management of rural skills landscapes; employability & language skills. Volunteering & EVS also available – 2 week, 6 week and 3 month stay. www.ambios.net

accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Our ‘cabin’ has 8 single bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large kitchen/lounge with wood burner. This accommodation is part of our working care farm, managed for biodiversity and learning. It is comfortable and sits amongst the trees, hedgerows, surrounded by idyllic countryside with spectacular views of the River Dart. This is a secure and tranquil place for relaxing between learning sessions. All meals are provided from local produce (direct from our farm where possible) with special dietary requirements catered for on request. We have a Yurt and an open plan office with internet access.

training during the project

We like to follow the interests of individual learners when we can and therefore the exact content may vary. There are 5 main areas of learning, grouped under the headings; UK biodiversity in context, UK wildlife surveys and habitat and species monitoring, Applied conservation management, Research projects and community work, Education and widening participation. The learning pathways weave its way through these subject areas to deliver a quality unique and work focused experience.

volunteer profile

We are looking for people that are sincerely interested in nature conservation/wildlife/environment/natural world and want to use this opportunity as a platform into the job market or as an insight into the different experiences available. Volunteers should be hard working, socially aware, happy to share space and work with a wide mix of people. A love of the outdoors is a must. English language skills required: intermediate level. We provide excellent language support to help those who need more confidence with their language skills.

We have our three month traineeship which can be self funded or accessed through Erasmus+. If through Erasmus please contact your university as well as applying to us. we also have EVS opportunities through service volontaire. We also take self funded volunteers for 2 weeks – 3 months.
