The project Citizen CAN is based on the promotion and experience of active citizenship, the main field of work of AMC. Active citizenship is the attitude through which each individual can participate to the maximum of their intent in the democratic processes of their communities.

The aims of Citizen CAN are:

  • to promote volunteering as a tool of civic participation and a mechanism that allows young people to acquire personal, social and professional skills;
  • to bring non formal education closer to the structures of formal education, fostering the sharing of good practices, and values/attitudes of citizenship and empowerment;
  • to foster the participation of young people in the democratic life, mainly in the protection of human rights.

Associaciação Mais Cidadania (AMC) is a European Non-profit NGO that operates in Bairro Alto, Lisboa (Portugal), since 2003.

accommodation, food and transport arrangements

  • Travel costs to and from Portugal will be reimbursed within the available budget for the Erasmus+ Programme depending on the origin country;
  • The volunteer will have a single room in a flat with other volunteers (the flat is located in central Lisbon (around 30/40 minutes from AMC’s office);
  • S/he will work up to 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday and occasionally on weekends (time compensations will be arranged);
  • Pocket money will be given at first week of the month;
  • The money for food at second week of the month;
  • Local transportation in Lisbon will be provided through a monthly public transportation card;
  • Health insurance will be provided under Erasmus+ Programme;
  • The volunteer will have a mentor helping her/him to develop the learning, social skills and improve the process of integration;

The way we define the profile for the volunteers is based more on motivation than on skills. We believe motivation to be the driving force of someone who intends to be an international volunteer: motivation to learn, to share, to listen, to acquire skills, to GIVE ☺

The volunteer should:

  • Have between 18 and 30 years-old;
  • Be available to be part of Citizen CAN during 10 months (March to December 2018) on a full-time project (up to 35 hours per week);
  • Having official residence in Serbia;
  • Able to live and work in a multicultural and cooperative environment;
  • Respect all times the ways of work and methodologies of the organisation;
  • Available to learn about the work developed by AMC under the framework of Non-Profit Organisations;
  • Understand and be part of AMC spirit and work;
  • Willing to learn and develop the project under Non Formal Education methodologies;
  • Able to work with everyone (all people involved from different teams and projects) with availability, interest, kindness and smiles;
  • Adaptability and flexibility – we all must have this;
  • Interested in developing intercultural and intergenerational learning and dialogue (in daily life during the project at local and international levels);
  • Interested in acquiring experience in local, national and international youth projects;
  • Willing to share personal interests, skills and values with other youngsters;
  • Sharing the values of Citizen CAN;
  • Interested in learning new languages and different cultures;
  • Able to communicate and work in English (at first) and interested in learning Portuguese;
  • Be empathic with others (whithin the team, volunteers, youngsters or other participants in local activities and daily life of the organisation but also in common living arrangements – the more personal side of the project at EVS flat);
  • Interested and able to find solutions for the common good;
  • Able to understand and accept the consequences of their behaviour;
  • Willing to develop their authonomy;
  • Able to engage in office tasks that can be repetitive but creative on writing and editing levels.

additional information

Note:

  • The placement offered enables a voluntary environment where some tasks are previously determined but many other will arise accordingly the activities and partnerships established along the year. Tasks will change according to the period of the year, as a consequence of the different needs of the target groups the hosting association works with.
  • The volunteer will never replace the professional staff of the hosting organization.

TASKS:

  • Actively participate in Portuguese Language Course (30 hours);
  • Establish regular contact with Sending Organisation and provide written monthly feedback (both to Sending as well as Hosting Organisation);
  • Regular meetings with the mentor (person appointed by AMC);
  • Regular meetings with project supervisor (EVS coordinator);
  • Be part of the day-by-day of the organisation and actively be part of all activities and dimentions of AMC’s work (in the office, with local partners, meetings, training courses, seminars, among many others);
  • Actively take part in the local Food Bank (once or twice a month);
  • Create and implement (with the support of the team) sessions of non formal education about topics such as youth participation, human rights, citizenship to be implemented with groups of youngsters;
  • Use video and camera to collect evidence of the local activities implemented by AMC and/or local partners, edit and store this data;
  • Support the implementation of national and international projects on local level and support our communication and promotion manager with the promotion of AMC’s projects;
  • Cope with office tasks and embrace the work led by an NGO, in all its forms, including cleaning the office 😉;
  • Create a personal project related with own interests and work led by the organisation and its interests;
  • Elaborate a self-assessment certificate (Youthpass) on recognition and validation of their experiece (from October 2018 to the end of project).
